MCS Board Committees

The primary role of Board Committees for 2020-21 is to establish workplans, assess feasibility and set metrics for each of the goals within the school’s 5-year Strategic Plan.

 MCS Foundation Board Committee Protocols:

  1. Board committees are created and function in accordance with the Bylaws of the MCS Community Foundation, Inc.

  2. Board committees are subject to Oregon open meeting law and notice of meetings must be posted at least 48 hours before the scheduled meeting time.

  3. Board committees should meet at least once per month. A regularly recurring meeting date (first Tuesday of month, etc.) is recommended. Meetings should be scheduled to allow for completed minutes to be included in the monthly Board meeting packet.

  4. An agenda for each committee meeting must be prepared in advance and submitted to the Executive Secretary for posting.

  5. Minutes of each committee meeting must be taken and submitted to the Executive Secretary for posting. Minutes should follow the template provided by the Board Development Committee.

Facilities Committee

The purpose of the Facilities Committee is to ensure that MCS has adequate/effective facilities and grounds to implement the school’s mission and programming. The Facilities Committee works with the Executive Director in establishing a long-term facilities plan that supports program implementation.

This focus of this committee is on school facilities.  The committee is currently working with IBI (a consulting firm) to unpack results of an assessment that they did for MCS last year.  Look for more information about this (including a public forum in which results will be presented) from Ken in the very near future.  This is the result of a lot of work that started in years-past, and that is now coming to fruition.  This is exciting stuff, and a first step in informed long-range facilities planning.

The purpose of the Facilities Committee is to ensure that MCS has adequate/effective facilities and grounds to implement the school’s mission and programming. This committee supports the Strategic Goal of RIGHT FACILITIES: “Our facilities and infrastructure meet health, safety and educational needs of the school.”

Fundraising Committee

This committee needs no introduction and has been a very important part of MCS for so long.  Fundraising is perhaps the most dependent of all our committees on volunteer effort.  Please consider how you can help, and either come to a committee meeting, or contact Laura to ask how you can get involved!

The purpose of the Fundraising Committee is to provide recommendations for annual fundraising strategies and a longer-term Capital Campaign as established by the Fundraising Plan.

This committee supports the Strategic Goal of FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY: “There is adequate funding to support MCS’s needs and goals.”

For more information, contact Laura Kahler.

School Growth Committee

This is a Board Committee. Anyone on staff or from the public are invited to attend.

This committee will work with our administration on topics important to the maintenance and growth of MCS.  At present, academic achievement is one of a couple of focuses of this committee. Due to the pandemic, hybrid and on-site learning will be a focus.  Committee members are welcome to send topics of interest for agenda items. This committee supports the Board Goal of developing new processes for utilizing data for decision making and resource allocation. It also supports the Core Values of MCS.

Please consider if work in this area is something you would be interested in doing, and contact Board Director Carole Dearholt to get involved. Continued commitment to the committee is helpful to maintain consistency. It is difficult to assess time commitment but usually there will be approx 2 meetings per month, plus follow up and research during this time.
